Kate Zernike's "And Now a Word from Their Cool College Sponser"
In this essay, Kate Zernike talks about two college students who offered to advertise a company in return for the money for their college education. I think that this was very smart of these two men. I would have never thought of asking a company to pay for my education if I wore their logo. It is a win-win situation. The men get their educations paid for and the company gets its name out there. Since these two men are college students, they are constantly surrounded by young people. Young people are always into the latest trend and if they see classmates advertising something, they are going to want to go out and buy it. This was also a smart move because the men have to make good choices or else their money will be taken away. This is a good model for other students. The other students will see that these men are making good choices and getting good grades and they will want to do the same. I am sure that this idea has now filled many student's heads and more and more companies are giving money in return for advertising.

I definitely agree with you! Being an athlete I would love to have a sponsor to pay for my education! Young people are always up for the next new thing and they are persuaded by their peers. Using two college aged boys was a smart move by First USA.
I wonder how many other student-sponsors have sprung into existence after all the publicity surrounding these two?
What a smart idea - one that would have never crossed my mind! Amy, what an interesting question.
it is really ethical. these kids are just out of highschool. should we be further subdued by adverts come closer and closer invading every part of our existence? is the credit card company really that awesome that it should be advertised? i understand that it will pay for college for two kids, but is it really worth it? not a question that can be answered lightly...
